On average, dogs need 1-2 hours of exercise per day which makes your dog your perfect fitness companion. In addition to regular daily walks or runs, there are also other ways dogs and owners can get fit together. Dogs make great fitness buddies, they love exercising and provide the perfect motivation to get out there. Read on to learn more how you and your best bud can get fit together.

Dog Agility Trials
Agility trials are a great way to exercise with your dog.Dog agility trials are dog obstacle courses where your dog is encouraged to complete the course as quickly as possible with the owner running alongside. It is fun for your dog and a great aerobic, strength and conditioning workout for you as well. Not only is dog agility a really enjoyable way for you and your dog to get fit, it is also a useful way to work on your dog’s obedience as they have to follow basic commands to get complete the course.

Hiking And Camping
A strenuous trek on a mountain trail is a great workout while also enjoying nature and your dog will feel the same way about this. Dogs enjoy exploring and taking in the different smells and sights of the great outdoors. If you are planning on backpacking or camping, then it is essential to ensure you have the right equipment for your dog to ensure that they get the most out of it. Check in advance if dogs are welcome on the trails and campsites you are planning to visit. Be prepared and ensure your pooch has plenty of water and something to drink it out of and a safe and comfortable place to sleep. If you dog is crate-trained then a portable crate is a good way to keep your dog safe when needed.

Swimming Outdoors
Most dogs love to swim and if yours is one of them, then it is a great form of exercise offering aerobic exercise without the impact of running. So next time you swim in a lake, river or the sea take your dog with you. Take some fresh water for your dog to drink after swimming, wash them down afterwards fresh water and finally clean and dry their ears afterwards to prevent infections. If your dog is not a strong swimming then use a doggie life jacket to keep them afloat and to give you peace of mind.
